talisman.jpgSteven Spielberg has been trying to bring a version of Stephen King's sci-fi epic, The Talisman, to life for years now. And a version scheduled for broadcast next summer on TNT has been "put on hold," according to The Hollywood Reporter, because of budgetary issues.

Spielberg was set to be an executive producer on the six-hour TV version, announced by TNT last December. But after the scripts were completed, it reportedly became clear that the adaptation was prohibitively priced. Of course, stories about a journey from this world to a parallel world tend to involve costly special effects, hence the snag.

So what now? DreamWorks TV and TNT are said to be addressing the budgetary issues before scrapping a project they've already invested in. But come on, if Steven Spielberg doesn't have the clout to get it made after having the option on The Talisman for over 20 years, maybe it just can't be made.
